ENGLISH AND SPANISH LESSONS OF ART IN ROME

Enjoy the atmosphere of an Italian Renaissance art-studio inside an old church in the heart of the ancient Rome. The school is located in the deconsecrated church of Santa Maria in Grottapinta, just behind Campo de’ Fiori and Piazza Navona. The Accademia del Superfluo, following the Italian artistic traditions, offers courses of trompe l’oeil, false marbles, furniture decoration. Lessons of watercolour and oil painting complete the programme of courses.
Each lesson of 2 hours costs 50 € each follower for a minimum group of 4 people.
TECHNIQUES OF ORNAMENTAL PAINTING 1
Use of the sponge; patinas and finishing.
Stencil: how to cut and print an ornamental element to repeat a pattern.
False marbles: red porphyry, Carrara veined marble, green breach, lapis-lazuli. This traditional Italian technique is used to reproduce the visual effect of marbles and stones with pictorial effects of aged and weathered surfaces.
TECHNIQUES OF ORNAMENTAL PAINTING 2
Grisaille: theory of light and shade, the monochrome painting and the false relief. Three-dimensional effect by brush’s strokes. Transfer of the ornate design (frame, capital, pilaster, bas-relief). A Renaissance ornament will be painted on canvas at the end of the course.
After the 2 basic courses TECHNIQUES OF ORNAMENTAL PAINTING is possible to join the class of TROMPE L'OEIL:
How to prepare the project of a trompe l’oeil enclosed in an architectural element (ex. bookshelf with books and objects ). The composition, once ready, will be painted on canvas stressing mainly the three-dimensional effects.
Part 1) How to draw a sketch of “Trompe l’oeil” with elements of perspective. Watercolour rendering of the sketch.
Part 2) Preparation of a canvas (m 1,20 x 1) to be painted. Transfer of the original drawing on the canvas. Definition of pictorial details and colours.
